How is surface texture measured?

Surface texture is quantified by parameters which relate to certain characteristics of the texture. Reference will be found to some thirty or more such parameters - each being chosen so that it best reflects the characteristics of particular importance for the given case. From this extensive list, International Standard 468 selects just 6 for use in industry. Please see this page for a description of these roughness parameters.
